I decided that being almost 6 months pregnant was not enough work with a toddler so why not work on potty training the boy. I am lucky that he was pretty easy. Minus the 42 (yes 42) times he went to the potty the first day, it was pretty smooth sailing for the weekend. And after a 4 day strike on poop, Evan gave in and got his "potty prize". A nice big crane. he talked about it all day yesterday and couldn't wait for Isaac to get home with it.
Yes, I bribed my child to use the toilet and I am ok with it :)
It has been 5 days and we haven't had an accident since Sunday and dry during naps most days. This boy rocks! The real test will be next week when our family comes to visit and a lot of car rides. Thank goodness for portable potties and piddle pads for the car seats.samanthalperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09230274837303849617noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2723397217923045752.post-21068106063352662452012-06-13T19:42:00.002-07:002012-06-13T19:42:35.246-07:00Wordless Wednesday..First ever taste of ice cream
I am 13 weeks today and feeling good. No more morning sickness (that actually has been gone for a few weeks) and no headaches as of now. I am still very very tired but the doctor has me upping my iron intake so hopefully that will give me a little more energy.

Evan is still sure he is having a sister and her name this week is Go Stop. It changes between that, Stop Go and No Thank You. Very creative :)

Isaac and I celebrated our 4 year anniversary today. Started our morning with both taking Evan to school and then going on a breakfast anniversary date. Next week we are going out to see Chris Isaak in concert so that will be our real celebration.

Evan has been saying some pretty funny things lately and not really sure where he gets it. I had asked him what he wanted for a snack and his response was "something wonderful". LOL

That's it for now.samanthalperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09230274837303849617noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2723397217923045752.post-35186955589261819362012-03-07T22:29:00.003-08:002012-03-07T22:29:52.666-08:00Wordless Wednesday....Fun with friendssamanthalperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09230274837303849617noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2723397217923045752.post-52344315982998977712012-03-03T19:49:00.000-08:002012-03-03T19:49:14.383-08:00Long TimeIt has been FOREVER since I have updated this site. But now is as good as time as ever to get back into working on it. I have said it before but I will try to be better at keeping this up to date.

Things have been busy lately. Evan is now closer to 3 than 2 and has the attitude to prove it! He wants to do everything himself and isn't afraid to tell you that. He whines all the time and we just keep working with him to "use his words" and he may even get what he wants.

Evan goes to a Montessori Preschool 3 mornings a week and just loves it. He moves up to the actual preschool in the fall. His ability to learn blows my mind and amazes me on a daily basis. It seems if we read him a book or sing him a song within a few days he will just start singing or repeating the book when he wakes up in the morning. How I wish for that memory :)

We are also expecting a new addition to the family! Baby K #2 is due around September 20, 2012. A nice High Holiday Baby. I have asked Evan about 4 or 5 times if he wants a baby brother or sister and every time he says sister. We asked him what "her" name should be and his standard answer is "no". So, the name Evan as come up with for the baby is "No Thank You Konikoff".

He kisses my belly which I don't think there is anything much sweeter than that and talks to the baby every once in awhile. His favorite thing to talk to it about is what he is eating. Pretty funny.

I have been much more tired this time around and morning sickness has been all day nauseousness. Seems to be getting better as I am nearing the beginning of my second trimester. Had an ultrasound last week and the baby didn't stop moving. I wish I could remember what Evan was like at that point but I am still pretty early.
I have read this before and really like it. It was written in 1927 but can ring true in any age. Just wanted to share with all of you.

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let not this blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams; it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful.

My most prized possession.

I gave Evan my teddy bear, CBA (Cuddly Bear Alper) I was about 5 when I got it so don't laugh too hard at his name.

It was very cute how Evan hugged and held onto the bear. I cried when Evan was so excited to have a new "friend". I hope that Evan can have this bear for many years to come. It's not in that bad of shape considering the bear is close to 30 years old.

Pictures to come soon.samanthalperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09230274837303849617noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2723397217923045752.post-21894449138887691082011-04-03T19:57:00.000-07:002011-04-03T19:57:53.787-07:00PicturesSince the last post was long this one is just pictures. Evan is literally changing daily so I will try to do my best.

We are so so happy that spring is here. It feels that Evan has been more sick than not this winter season. I told our doctor when we were there AGAIN the other week that Evan should have the immune system of a super hero by the time he enters school! We have had many sleepless nights and our fair share of watching too many kid shows. Once we can get out doors again and get in the fresh air I hope the germs will dissipate.

We have really lucked out with Evan and traveling. He loves the plane and even asks to go on it again when we land. A 2 1/2 hour flight is not that long and seems to be good for him since he no longer wants to take naps on the plane. It was our first trip with Evan totally mobile and we were worried what was in store for us. He did amazing! The most excited he got was when we were in the Seatlle airport and he saw a plane with Mickey and company painted on it. He was screaming "mickey, duck" while running to the window.

The three of us just got back from Arizona where we watched our cousin Dana get married. Evan is very excited for our new cousin Brian who also has red hair :) It was a beautiful event and Evan did an amazing job meeting so many new people.

While we were in AZ, we watched Evan's vocabulary flourish. If you ask him to say a word or a name he tries his hardest to say it. He can now say many family members name's and many other things. Evan can now also count to 2! He needs both hands as he counts 1 on one hand and 2 on the other.

It's so amazing to watch his brain work and connect. The other big thing that Evan is doing is identifying letters and the sounds that they make. We watch a DVD from Leap Frog called The Letter Factory and it teaches the sounds. Evan will tell you the letter when he sees it on the screen and is working on their sounds. He actually points out letters on everything.

This past week we have hit the independence stage of toddler-hood. I have been bitten, laughed and at screamed at all by Evan. We had a few days of HORRIBLE temper tantrums. Evan would just sit down wherever and scream and cry. I had the joy of Evan having a tantrum at the children's museum and me carrying out a screaming, kicking child to our car. That seems to have been the worst for now but Evan has his moments.

Some things we just never had to worry about with Evan since he didn't seem interested or we thought he understood it wasn't safe. WRONG. In his streak to push every boundary he can. Evan likes to keep going towards a hot oven to touch and laughs when he is told it is hot and dangerous. So much fun :)

We love being able to talk and interact more and more each day with Evan.

Sorry for the super long post just trying to catch up.

Will try to post more frequently and pictures will follow soon
My baby is now a full blown toddler! He talks, disagrees, walks/runs, throws temper tantrum, has become a very picky eater and LOVES to try and say what we do.

At Evan's 18 month check up he weighed 25.8 lbs, 33 1/2 inches and his head measured 19 1/2 inches. So he is in the 40% for weight, 75% for height and 90% for his head :) The doctor thinks Evan will be about 6' when he gets older. Luckily Evan has slowed down in growing unlike his first year. We are able to keep clothes a little longer than before. Evan is long enough to wear 2T clothes but is no where near 27 lbs. So he will have saggy pants for awhile :)

Evan went to the allergist yesterday to be retested for his food allergies. I was hopeful but the allergies are still there. The good part is his reaction was less than it was 6 months ago. The doctor is very hopeful that Evan will be able to eat dairy and eggs before he is 3. We did learn that when Evan does test negative for his allergies it is going to be a VERY SLOW introduction. Like a tablespoon a day of milk (mixed in his formula) for a few days and then slowly increasing the amount. We had also mentioned how Evan has had croup 2 times in 2 months. The doctor said that if Evan gets it one more time in the next 10 months we will need to see them. Croup can be an indicator for asthma for a child with food allergies. 90% of children with food allergies get asthma! Fingers crossed that Evan will be in that 10%.

I went away for a weekend and left the boys to fend for themselves, it seemed to go great. I got in the car and Evan could care less that I was gone. All he said was "door".

Speaking of vocabulary, Evan is just a talking machine. You ask him to say something and he sure tries. Doesn't always sound like the word but he knows what he is talking about. Door is again the word of choice and he likes to point to them or when people come in our out of our house. He always has to point out they used the door. There are too many words/signs that he is doing now to write down but he is a sponge (guess we should start watching what we say around him)

Evan has started recognizing letters AND can make the sound of a few of them. If I ask Evan "what starts with M" he will say "mama", he knows dada/daddy start with D and that BeBe/Baby start with B. Evan has a book for the tub called Bath Time. He will point and say the B,A,T,M and for the E he will point to himself for Evan. We have a play mat with pop out letters and he loves to just point at one to find out what I will tell him the letter is and the sound it makes. Watching him learn and connect things just blows my mind.

When Evan was first eating until a little after 1year he would eat just about anything you put in front of him. I would say at around 14 months that all stopped! We have a very very very picky eater on our hands which makes meal times not so fun. For a long time Evan would just look at his plate and say NO, but in the past week or so Evan will at least touch the food and at times even put it to his mouth! Then last night I was cutting up bell peppers and carrots and Evan tried and continued to eat them. He also ate pasta which he never touches. It was such a great feeling and a peaceful dinner (for a little anyway) since we were ALL eating.

I think I am all caught up for now.
Right before Christmas we were finally able to get to Colorado and spend time with my brother, sister in law and adorable niece. It was nice and relaxing and so great to see the kids play together. They are about 4 months apart and was about time they got to meet. Only a few altercations over toys but I think Annabelle and Evan became fast friends.

While we were away Evan was working on his walking and now is a pro. He hasn't figured out how to stand not holding onto anything but that doesn't slow him down at all! Isaac and I agree we are glad he took his time learning to walk. He likes to just get up and go. Laughing and squealing in delight while he walks around the house.

It is so wonderful to hear Evan laugh and talk. If you ask him to say a word, he will try his best to say it and sometimes he gets the word perfect. I am starting to realize he will say something he shouldn't and that will be because of me. I am working hard and watching what comes out when I speak.

We love in the morning to hear Evan having a conversation with his Lovey while in bed. It puts me and Isaac in wonderful moods and has us laughing. We don't understand much but it sounds like Evan knows what is going on. He doesn't just talk in bed he will do this around the house and in the car. I asked him one day if he was singing along to the radio, he told me no. I then asked if he was just talking and he said, yeah.

For Evan's 1st birthday he got a play mat that has the alphabet and numbers on it. His new thing is to point to letters and numbers while you tell him what it is and what sound it makes. He also has magnets in the kitchen and does the same thing. He knows some letters and numbers. He has known the number eight for awhile. He is now pointing out the B and saying B or the sound it makes. We can ask him what starts with M and 99% of the time he will say Mama, and with the letter D he will say Dada or Daddy.

I am more impressed and amazed every day with what this child can comprehend and learn. He is a sponge and it is great to watch him take it all in.

Last week me, Evan and some of our friends went to the Seattle Aquarium. He couldn't stop saying and signing "fish". He could have stared at them all day. Watching the world through his eyes is so much fun.

We started up again this past week with our Mommy and Me class. Last session Evan was having some major separation issues from me and would scream and scream when I left. It was challenging for me and wasn't seeming to get better. On Tuesday I was prepared for the same situation, I said good bye and without even looking at me he said "bye-bye". I was so excited and relieved. He played and colored and didn't care I was gone for 30 minutes or so.

Isaac and I have also now been told " I love you" from Evan unprompted. My mom taught him how to sign it in their own special way. While we were in Colorado, Evan looked over at me and did the sign. I kept it together but that moment will be forever stamped in my mind.

The end of this month Evan will be 1 1/2. We are in shock how quick our little baby is transforming into a little boy.

Until next time.samanthalperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09230274837303849617noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2723397217923045752.post-55572992620486704682010-12-08T22:18:00.000-08:002010-12-08T22:18:45.447-08:00Walking Walking Walking

Well, here it is. The day we have been waiting for. Evan can walk without help! He still hasn't figured out how to stand on his own without holding a hand or wall. Today about 50% of the times I let go of his hand while we were walking he stayed standing and took about 10-15 steps or more.

Tonight Evan was having a blast walking from Isaac to his JuJu and Mama. Great to see and scary all at the same time.

Over the weekend our dog Lady went to a new home. We realized about a month ago that Lady needed more than we could give her. She wasn't getting the excersize she needed and was suffering for that. We had gone through the Alternative Humane Society which was the organization we got her through over 2 years ago. There were 3 families that wanted Lady.

It seemed too good to be true when the best family was chosen. They live about an hour south of us on 10 acres of land. They are an older couple with the husband retired and they were looking for a Dobie/Rottie mix. The wife told me she thought it was deja-vu when she saw Lady's picture. They have always had dogs and Lady was just the one they wanted. I called to answer any questions they had and let them know about her aggression issues but their minds were made up. I hung up with them around 10am and by 12:30 Lady was in the car and on her way to her new home.

It was extremely hard to watch her leave. Isaac and I still look for her around the house. I will look at where her bed used to be to see if she is sleeping or why isn't she waiting for dinner. It is getting easier every day.

So...then Saturday afternoon Evan was still running a temp that started Friday afternoon. I had called our dr since we were getting on a plane Monday morning. They said to call Sunday morning if he had a bad night. Well it took 4 HOURS to get him to sleep and I started seeing bumps on his hands.

Called the doctor Sunday morning (they have a clinic on the weekends) and they saw us right away. Evan was diagnosed with Hand, Foot, Mouth disease. Sounds so much worse than it is. It's a virus that has Evan covered in bumps and also in his mouth and down his throat. He isn't complaining but his food intake is small.

The biggest problem with this virus is that Evan is very contagious for about 5-7 days. We had tickets to go to my brother's in Colorado to celebrate Thanksgiving and our niece Annabelle's first birthday. I was trying to find anyway that we could go but knew we couldn't go and risk getting anyone else sick.

We are now going in 3 weeks and luckily got most of our money back and use towards the new trip.

It seemed to be a sign not to go because the weather was so bad yesterday in Seattle I am not sure we would have made it to the airport.

So Evan and I are indoors until Friday and staying warm since it is 24 degrees out today. We will be having a small family Thanksgiving at home. We have made some wonderful friends here in Bellingham that have invited us to Thanksgiving dinner even though we can't go. It is so nice to have that support.

So here's to hoping that December is a better month with a lot less illness that November.samanthalperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09230274837303849617noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2723397217923045752.post-66681187018077474362010-11-15T06:21:00.000-08:002010-11-15T06:21:00.610-08:00The Beginning of FallI seemed to have blinked and it is a week before Thanksgiving!
Not writing for October I can't remember everything that happened but I will do my best.

October was a fun month with Halloween and trying some new activities. Evan and I have started taking a baby gymnastics class once a week. It is a great workout for both of us :) Evan being his ever cautious self had to check everything out and took a few weeks to try something new. He now LOVES when they parachute is taken out to play with. Last week he even went on the little swing which is on a zipline and of course had the biggest smile on his face the entire time and kept asking if he could go again and again.

We had a blast for part of Halloween. We had a party with our Mommy and Me group. It was so cute to see all the kids in their costumes. Evan even wore his which I never thought would happen. I learned a valuable lesson with this costume thing.....don't make a big deal about putting the clothes on and Evan will never know he is wearing something different.

On Halloween Evan was sick and we got to stay home and hand out candy. It was fun to see all the kids.

My mom (BeBe) came to visit and Evan soaked up all the attention. She taught him a very cute way to "sign" I Love You. He still does it and they do it every time we Skype. Evan even got to try some gelato for the first time. We found out the fruit flavors are dairy free. Evan was very mad when his snack was gone.

Evan getting mad that there is none left

We have a little toddler roaming around the house. Evan is so so close to walking himself. He can hold onto one finger and walk but the second we let go he gently sits down. He walks about 3-4 steps every day. Evan just needs to gain confidence and off he will go!

It also seems like Evan is gaining new words on a daily basis. We still do plenty of signing and asking if that is what he wants. But I can also tell that when you say a word, many times he will try to copy the word. His comprehension is amazing. Now granted we are his parents and don't have other kids to compare to, but I can't get away with much these days. Evan knows we watch Elmo on the television and will point to our tv and say "Ehmo" and gets quite pissed when I tell him we aren't watching that yet.

One of Evan's favorite things to do is sing. He can now help with No More Monkeys Jumping on the Bed. And now that Evan can say "no" he does it at the point in the song. Mr. Bossy will let us know the song he wants to sing/hear and if you are wrong he will let you know.

We are about to get on a plane and go to Colorado to visit my brother and his family. Our little niece is turning 1 and there was no way I was going to miss that! It will be nice to get away for awhile and celebrate Thanksgiving with family.

We got Evan's hair cut! Isaac and I have been going back and forth about it for a few months but kept saying no when looking at his curls.

We went to a barbershop for the experience and that it was. We didn't have an appointment so we waited about 45 minutes. Evan did amazing. He was having fun and laughing. Then it was his turn.

Evan was weary the second they put the smock on Isaac who was holding him. Evan cried and screamed through most of it :) I don't have a great "after" picture yet but will post it once I can take one.

Well another busy month for Evan. 14 months, wow!

We have started up our Mommy and Me class again and now in the 1 year old class. This has been such a great resource for me and Evan. We love all the mom's and babies that we have known for over 6 months, but the instructor is great. We look forward to our Tuesday mornings.

Evan now has 7 teeth (that we can see) his top 2 molars and top front teeth have broken through and boy did we all hear about it.

This month he can now:
walk with a push toy
stand up holding onto something
says "nigh, nigh" for going to bed, yea or yes, hi, tries to say big bird sounds like bir, Elmo sounds a little like mo, Daddy, bye bye, baby
signs for shoes and when you ask him where shoes go he will show you his foot.
Evan now also knows touchdown but of course doesn't do it when the touchdown is actually scored.

Evan's new thing this past month has been shaking his head no for EVERYTHING! Anything you ask him he will shake his head no.

He also signs all done a lot more then when he actually means it. This makes some meals a little more challenging. But when Evan is hungry he signs for "eat".

Evan is so much fun, his personality comes out more and more each day. He is a ham and knows it. Loves making faces in the mirror and getting me, Isaac and anyone who looks at him to smile. He waves at anyone and anything. We were actually crossing the street to get into a store and a car stopped to let us cross. I am not sure if I raised my hand to say thank you but Evan waved and said hi. She was nice and waved back.

Evan is starting to learn how to play pretend which is so much fun. He will pretend a puzzle piece is food and then hand it to whoever he is playing with to to the same. Evan also has a game where he will get his doll or lovey and put his head down like he is going to sleep so we say nigh nigh and he then sits up and smiles as we say good morning. This can go on for a long time.

Evan loves loves loves music and has shown us he can shake his grove thang. Anytime music is on or you start singing to him he will start bouncing and shaking his tush and smiling of course. It always makes us smile.

We are excited that fall is here and looking forward to the month ahead. We have Evan's Grandpa Stan coming to visit from Florida. And then his BeBe will be here for Halloween. Evan will have more attention then he will know what to do with.
Not on his own but none the less walking!!! I was able to get a little on video. He had already done one lap around our downstairs.
samanthalperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09230274837303849617noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2723397217923045752.post-50549472495513049802010-08-28T21:05:00.000-07:002010-08-28T21:48:18.166-07:00Starting up againI know, I know it has almost 8 months since I have updated this blog but I promise I will be better. I am going to try and update at least once a month with what is going on with Evan and us.

So a quick catch-up. Evan is now 13 months! Can you believe it?

At his 1 year check up he was 31 1/4 inches and 23 1/4 lbs! 90th percentile for height, going to be a tall kid. Evan is crawling around and pulling up and cruising around a little but no huge interest in walking, yet. I think we have another month or two until walking starts which I am good with since we are still baby proofing the house.

Evan has 3 bottom teeth. He got the first 2 at about 10 months and then the 3rd a month later. We can see the top 2 but not out yet and we think that his 1 year molars and trying to come in as well. We have had sleepless nights again after being spoiled with Evan sleeping 15 hours a night for about 3 weeks. It seems to be every other night he doesn't sleep for the past week. I have read some posts online that women say it lasted weeks like this! At least all the big teeth should come in at once.

We have done a good amount of traveling this summer and Evan has been great through it all. Around July 4th we headed East to New Jersey and New York. The flights were long but Evan was a trooper. While in NJ Evan met his future wife, Ava. They got along great and I see potential in this relationship. Ava's mom is my best friend Alison whom I have known since I was about 3 or 4.

We headed up to Troy, NY and Evan got to meet his great grandma, Lilly and celebrate her 92nd birthday. Even though there was a major heat wave while we were there, we celebrated 4th of July at Lake George with Isaac's family and extended family and had a blast.

A few weeks ago we went camping on Friday Harbor. No running water or electricity and an out house. I think Evan was a better trouper than me :) We went on a whale watching tour and Evan had to be in a carrier the entire 3 plus hours. He flirted with literally EVERY woman on the boat. So funny.

Ok, so here we go on what I am going to try and post every month.

Evan at 12 months.
- love to play and "read" his books
- pulls up on furniture, and glass doors
- can sign: please, drink, eat, milk, help, fish, brush teeth, more, all gone or all done, lights
- words: mama, dada, nana (banana), ees(trees), dat (that)
- all things that start with b are "aboo". Book, blueberry, ball
- all things that start with d he makes a "ddd" sound. Door, dog, doll
- points to what he wants and signs please
- when he is done with eating or a toy he will sign all done
- if you ask Evan where a toy is, most times he will point to it and if we ask he will go get it
- can put the rings back on the stacking pole, not in order
- tries to do the motions for "Itsy Bitsy Spider"
- loves to dance and shake

I am sure I am forgetting plenty but that is it for now.samanthalperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09230274837303849617noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2723397217923045752.post-60243013433517218182010-01-28T20:11:00.000-08:002010-01-28T20:11:22.312-08:00It's been awhile and he is now 5 months old!So this post is a month old but wanted to post it anyway!

Sorry that I haven't posted in almost a month. Time really does fly. Evan turned 5 months old this week.

What a busy month it has been. We kicked off the month with Evan's 4 month pictures. Sandi Heinrich is the photographer who has been helping us chronicle Evan's life is AMAZING. We have so much fun taking the pictures which seems to be evident when looking at them.

Evan's first Hanukkah was a success! He got more gifts then he knows what to do with and all he really wanted was the wrapping paper to eat :) He has changed the way Isaac and I look at the holiday for sure. It will just be more and more fun the older he gets.

We saw Evan roll over for the first time (and haven't really seen it since). He is trying to roll a lot but not all the way there. Evan is also grabbing at EVERYTHING! My hair, lips, noses, glasses, you name it he will take it and put it in his mouth or try to.

We heard Evan say "Bah". He says it a lot! Even at 4 am when he wakes up :) Speaking of sleep I can say that we are having more great nights then not. He goes down around 7pm and is waking up around 4am. He may be up anywhere from 5 minutes to 45 minutes but goes back down until about 7am. Now if only Isaac and I can sleep like that.

Other milestones we have hit over the month were: Evan sitting up more and more by himself, loves playing in his exersaucer and jumparoo. Peek-a-boo is a favorite and gets laughs every time. We try reading to him but all Evan wants to do is eat the book.

We will be starting food with Evan once he hits 6 months. Since he has such sensative skin he is more prone ot food allergies so we need to be careful. I am going to try and make some of his food myself and see how that goes. He seems ready now! We are waiting for that first tooth to break through but who knows when that will happen.
We are getting ready to embark on our first family trip and so excited! We are sure the airplane ride will be an experience we will not forget, good or bad. Evan will get to meet so many cousins and friends I don't think we will be holding him much, except for the diaper changes of course.samanthalperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09230274837303849617noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2723397217923045752.post-33447552944610511722009-12-07T17:07:00.000-08:002009-12-07T17:07:13.899-08:004 month check up

Friday was Evan's 4 month check-up. He is now 17.1 pounds and 26 inches. We went to see a different Doctor a few weeks ago and some of the nurse's measurements were off. Our Doctor said Evan is now in the 75-90th percentile.

She decided that he should stay just on formula until his 6 month check up. She wants to make sure his tummy is ready. She was so happy with how he is growing and developing. The only "concern" she had was the back of Evan's head is getting a little flat. We need to keep him more upright while he is awake. This is not so much of a problem these days since Evan doesn't like being still and laying down for too long anyway.

Hanukkah is coming up on Friday and Evan is all set for his first "Celebration of Lights". We will be eating latkes and lighting candles and Evan has more than enough gifts to last 8 nights, thanks to all of his Grandparents.

Over the past few days Evan has started really connecting the dots. Now when he sees something interesting he tries to grab for it. Doesn't always get it but is trying. It is amazing to watch. He also LOVES Sesame Street. I put it on for him and he laughs and enjoys it so much.

Sleep is back to normal again. He is going down around 7pm and up around 2 or 3 am. The other morning he decided he was up at 6 am. But stayed in his crib until 7 playing and talking and laughing.

He knows his mom and dad and smiles the biggest grin when he sees either of us. What a great feeling to see that smiling face every day!

I think that is everything up to date. We are getting some new pictures taken so once we get them back we will share.

Happy Holidays.samanthalperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09230274837303849617noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2723397217923045752.post-36730961586742033402009-11-26T11:59:00.000-08:002009-12-07T19:12:50.024-08:004 Months already!

We are in shock that Evan is going to be 4 months on Sunday! Time is flying by, before we know it he will be walking and talking :) It is amazing how quickly he is changing. It really seems that every day he is doing something new.

We went to the Dr. the other week to check on Evan's skin. Since he is so fair skinned I think he may have skin issues for awhile. Just a little excema nothing too bad. Anyway, Evan got measured and weighed and I could have passed out! Evan is now.....15.7 lbs and 26.5 inches!!!! Since his 2 month check up he has gained almost 3 lbs and grown OVER 3 inches! We can not believe it. Our little boy who was in the 20th percentile when he was born is now in the 95th and higher! We are going to have a tall boy.

Sadly, Evan's hair is falling out. I am confident it will grow back red. We are seeing his new hair grow in and it is looking the same color.

As for milestones, there seem to be many. Evan can now sit up without support for a little while.

We put Evan in his exersauscer and he has started to use his hands to move different objects. He knows he has these hands but he is not quite sure how to use them. It is fun to watch but Evan gets frustrated when he can't get what he wants into his mouth.

We are pretty sure he has started teething. Evan likes to put anything and everything in his mouth, including Lady's nose. We have many teethers but Evan only likes one. It is a rubber giraffe that squeaks. Lady seems to think it can be her toy too :)

We are excited for Evan's first Thanksgiving. We are spending with some great friends and plenty of pictures will be taken. Can't believe that one year ago we found out we were pregnant with Evan!

Happy Holidays!samanthalperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09230274837303849617noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2723397217923045752.post-79163831183553617862009-11-04T20:29:00.000-08:002009-11-04T20:29:00.963-08:00Evan is growing and changing

It seems that this past week has been a busy one for Evan. He had a fun Halloween even though he wasn't awake for most of it. Looked cute in the outfits he had though. A patient from where I used to work gave him some clothes that she no longer needed and one was a Tigger snow outfit. I thought it was going to be small on him, boy was I wrong! It gave us a good laugh!

Evan also seems to have started teething. I don't think we are going to see anything for awhile but he is drooling ALL the time and chewing anything he can get in his mouth.

For the past few weeks Evan has been able to grab things and hold them but it seems like he didn't know he was doing it. Starting yesterday and more today that has changed! Evan is grabbing his rattle/teether and putting it in his mouth! It is amazing to watch the changes and to see how he is advancing day to day.

The time change hasn't really affected Evan. He actually slept better than normal the night of the change. His new schedule seems to be he is in bed around 7:15 and will wake up 3 or 4 times at night but just wants his pacifier. He is taking a bottle around 5 or 6 am and then going back down for a nap until 8 or so. Napping hasn't changed unfortunately. He is the 30 minute nap king! I can clock it which is hard. I get lucky some days and he will sleep for an hour. I don't know what to do with that extra 30 minutes!

Grandma BeBe is in town for a visit this week and Evan is soaking up all the attention. He now has enough clothes to wear one to two new outfits every day and not repeat for at least a few weeks. (it seems that way at least).

I think we can officaly say that Evan is now sleeping 7 hours straight! We put him down around 7 or 7:30 and he is not waking up until about 3am! This makes his Mommy and Daddy very very happy. After that feeding Evan sometimes wakes up around 5 or 5:30 and gets his pacifier and will go back to sleep until about 7:30!

Naps are still a challenge and only about 30-45 minutes long. I get lucky some days and he will sleep for an hour or two but that is not consistant at all.

We had signed up for a Mommy and Me class and were so excited to meet other mom's and baby's but it got cancelled for not having enough family's. So we will have to find something else to occupy our Monday afternoons.

Evan is just starting to fit into his 6 months clothes but they are a little big. He is still wearing most of his 3-6 month clothes but is out of the 0-3 months.

Isaac and I both comment on how it seems that Evan grows over night and every morning he is getting bigger and doing more and more.

Evan can now "sit up". If we put him in the corner or the end of the couch he is up and supporting his head. We also just started using the Bumbo (sp?) chair. This helps him sit up with some support. I don't like leaving him in there for long but I think he likes the view rather than always laying down or being carried. Evan is not a big fan of "tummy time" so the sitting up is a good way for those neck muscles to get a workout!

Here are a few pictures from this week! Evan will be 3 months on Thursday! Time flies :)

Have a great week!

His eyes look like they are changing color from blue to green.

Evan "sitting up" on the couch

These are all dolls that were mine as a baby.

I was having some fun today and snapped away. It is getting cold here so someone made Evan this great wool cap and it fits him perfectly! He even let me take some pictures! Too bad when we got outside he wanted nothing to do with the hat anymore.

Evan is becoming this little person with a pretty easy going personality. The main thing that will get him worked up is food. If we stop part way through his bottle he will scream and cry. So we have learned to burp him at the end of his feeding! His reflux seems to be getting better. He is spitting up a lot less.

We are still working on night time sleep and naps. This week we seemed to have successfully dropped one of Evan's night time feedings. He is still waking up a lot but if we go in and soothe him or give him his pacifier he will go back to sleep for a little while longer. Hoping for the day we wake up in the morning and realize we slept through the night. (We can all have our dreams)
Enjoy.
